Kolbrook's Crooked Halo HIC

Shortly after the tragic loss of our 1st foundation bitch, Dolmar's Libby of Farmil, we began the search for a quality bitch that carried the bloodlines that would tie our remaining kennel together. It must have been fate that during one of my frequent "Doggy" breaks that I flipped through an old Review and "Well-lah", the exact combination we had been looking for! Again, as luck would have it, there was a female puppy in the litter that Ann Brogden was willing to part with. "Haley" was shipped from the 1988 Houston Nationals to our then home, Calgary, Alberta Canada.

"Haley" was shown sparingly due to the fact that there were too few specialty shows or judges that would appreciate her abundant qualities; however, she did have some successes before it became painfully evident by her lack of "show" attitude, that we retire her to the whelping box. "Haley" started her career as a brood bitch presenting us with 1-10oz puppy, this after we had advertised her "heavy in whelp", one of our first reminders that the infamous dog god was out to get us!! This 1 puppy, sired by our Can. Ch. Dolmar's O'Reilly Inflight (2x Sel. Ch. Beau son), turned out to be a quality 27", Haley's Comet Inflight OFA Excellent, who is also retired due to a "lack" of show attitude.

"Haley's" next 2 efforts as a mom were much more substantial in litter size but it became obvious that we needed to try something different because although she was dominant for producing her correct qualities of substantial body, outreaching & hard driving gait & tremendous breed type, especially in the males, her non-enjoyment of the show ring seemed to be showing up only in the show puppies! In 1992, we had to make a move, so we called our good friend, Wendy Leach of Sandyhill Kennels and asked her if she was still interested in co-breeding a litter with us and using "Blackie" as the sire. She agreed, so we sent "Haley" to live in the good care of "Auntie" Wendy. In July, 1992, "Haley" presented us all with 6 males and 3 females. What a litter!! The depth of quality was exceptional and from that we chose 2 bicolor puppies, a male & a female. As it turned out, the male became, 1994 Canadian MV/GV, US Sel. #3, 1995 US Grand Victor, Am/Can. Ch. Inflight's Spencer v Sandyhill OFA, "Spencer" and the female, 1993 Western Region BOF, Inflight's Hepburn Sandyhill, "Kate". Other notables from the litter are Am. Ch. Sandyhill's Inflight Colorado SK, Can. Ch. Sandyhill's Inflight's Irish and Sandyhill's Inflight Inca (BP wins & Can. ptd). Sadly, shortly after the 1994 Canadian Nationals where her son "Spencer" was chosen Best of Breed by Mary Vurma, we had to spay "Haley".

After being spayed, Haley turned to the Duty of being Grandma to all our babies. She helped impart her sound, sensible demeanor to the hellions, letting them know when they were bad, in no uncertain terms and loving them as if they were her own. She was a breeder's dream as a brood bitch and was an all round excellent example of the breed. We miss her terribly still, but take solace in the fact that we still have a part of her in her grandchildren.  Right before the 1995 Canadian Nationals, where her granddaughter, "Lilly Marlene" went Winners Bitch & Select #5, Haley died in my arms.

Thank you, "Haley" for everything you gave us!
